We Did It! What are the next steps?
11 months ago – Thu, May 08, 2025 at 10:34:59 AM

Thank you all for bringing this project to life. The days leading to launch were filled with nervous doubts. More money was on the line with the Omnibus than with any previous project. I was wiling to take a loss because I believed I could make it up, over time, with sales. But those worries were unfounded and this Kickstarter pays for an offset run of books (smyth sewn) with bookmarks. Leaving me with 300 extra copies.

Next steps:

  • Proof copies arrive. I should receive the second proof copy in two weeks. This is from a POD printer (not the company that will print the books) and were ordered to aid in finding errors. (~2 weeks from now)
  • Upload final files to printer. I may make a few more tweaks based on the review of the second proof copy. Then I will upload files to the printer. (~3 weeks from now)
  • Set up Backerkit. We collect postage and set up the distribution of PDFs via Backerkit. Once it goes live, you will get an email to complete the survey(~3 weeks from now)
  • Receive printed books. The printer is behind due. They estimate the book production to occur by mid July.  (~6 weeks from now)
  • Completed Fulfillment. With books in hand, my wife and I knuckle down and mail out all the books. (~8 weeks)

To summarize - I hope to have all books shipped by the end of July.

While this is all subject to change–the world is a crazy place–I feel pretty confident with this timeline.

Wow! What a successful first day.

Whoo hooo!

We hit over $4k on the first day. I am very relieved and I will tell you why:

I am paying over $8K for the production run of books. It will probably take about $12K to break even (costs above the printing costs). This was a bit of a gamble and it appears to be paying off. I took the chance because I have faith in this book's value and longevity. Even if the projected didn't fund enough to break even, I believed that, over time, people continue to want it, eventually turning the projects' ledger from red to black.

Thank you for also believing in this project.

Where we stand:

  • I plan to order a proof copy (POD) by Thursday
  • I plan to sign the contract with the printer (offset press) by Thursday.
  • Once I get a production date, I will share it.
